Çıralı is the location of Ulupınar neighborhood of Kemer district.

Located within the borders of Beydağları Coastal National Park, Çıralı is the breeding ground of protected sea turtles (Caretta caretta) on the coastline formed by three kilometers of sandy beach. The beach rises with a gentle slope from the sea. It is bordered by cliffs at both ends. In general, it has a fine-grained sand structure. There is a stream bed in the north that flows only in winter. At the southern end, the stream coming to the village, passing through the ancient city of Olympos, reaches the sea. Thus, Çıralı beach can be divided into two as Olympos and Çıralı, with Olympos creek to the south.

Ulupınar stream and canyon, Lycian road, Olympos, Yanar Taş, cedar forests, plateaus and 1st and 2nd degree natural and historical site protection statuses have been kept away from large-scale tourism and construction in similar areas nearby.

Ulupınar Environmental Protection, Development and Operation Cooperative, which was established in 2000, develops ecological agriculture and related tourism activities in the region, while also carrying out nature protection activities here. Local people generally earn their living from boarding houses, restaurants and small-scale agricultural enterprises. The typical Mediterranean climate prevails in the region. In winter, the temperature almost never drops below zero. After a long spring period, a very hot summer (45 degrees in July and August) reigns.

mythological story

In Argos, a part of Greece, there lived a divinely beautiful young man named Bellerophontes. Since he wanted so much to own the flying horse Pegasos, he ran after Pegasos for days without saying mountain slopes, but he was unsuccessful. One day, the gods announced how he could have a flying horse in his dream. He also managed to own the horse with the golden bridle given to him at a time when the horse was drinking water as the gods wanted.

However, Bellerophontes accidentally kills someone one day. Therefore, he left Argos and took refuge in the palace of Proitos, king of Tiryns. The Queen soon falls in love with this handsome young man. She wants to make love to him. But Bellerophontes does not want to disrespect the owner of the house where he is a guest and refuses the queen's wish. The Queen also wants to take revenge on her husband by lying to her husband, claiming that the young man wanted to forcefully enter her bosom. Although the king is angry, he does not want to kill his guest and sends a letter to his father-in-law, the king of Lycia, to have him killed.

Bellerophontes reaches Lycia. The king meets him near the Xanthos river and hosts him for nine days. On the ninth day, he receives the letter sent by his son-in-law and realizes that he must be killed. However, he can't kill it either, and he wants Chimera to kill him. So he thought of getting rid of her. Chimera is a strange creature with a lion in front, a snake behind, a goat in the middle, and a flaming fire from its mouth. Bellerophontes knocks Chimera to the ground thanks to the will of the gods and his winged horse Pegasos. Although the king gave Bellerophonhes many more difficult tasks, he overcame all of them.

Upon this, the king believed that he was descended from a god and gave him many gifts and married his daughter. Bellerophontes is descended from Poseidon. They have three children from this marriage, their daughter Laodameia makes love with Zeus and Sarpedon is born from this lovemaking. When Sarpedon grows up, he becomes the king of Lycia. He participates in the Trojan War.

I came to help from far away from Xanthos of Anaforlu, from distant Lycia.....

He scolds the rest of the war by saying, and after showing many heroism, he is killed by Patroclus, who fights with Achilles' weapons. He dies while giving his last breath, handing over his duty to Glaukos. Zeus orders Apollo to take his son's dead body to Lycia.

Thus, Chimera, born from the union of Typhon and Echidna, one of the underground creatures, lived on the mountain seen from Olympos, which is today called Çıralı and Yanartaş. Chimera, whom Belerophontes killed by riding his flying horse Pegasos, even when he was dying, flames were coming out of his mouth. Today, the natural gas coming out of the rocks and burning is associated with this legend.
